Yes. As of today...I have two weeks left until my last "unweightloss" appt. Enough said...
In other news...our most favoritest, sweetest, bestest friend and neighbor who had the stroke Tues night...well there's been a great turn of events.
It appears as though our friend will not need surgery and may even get to go home today! We visited her last night for a little while and I thought she looked good for someone who'd just had a stroke. She still has all motor coordination and strength, so that's a major major plus! We took her a bromeliad and some balloons to give her a splash of color without inundating her with fragrant flowers.
Eventually, we wandered off and got ourselves some dinner. We ate at a restaurant in the midtown area of Houston that was just on Diners Drive-ins and Dives last Friday. The place was called Red Lion. Does anyone watch that show? My sweet hubby loves it. Guy and the crews were here in June trying out some great spots and we've been trying to get a meal or two in at these places, if we didn't already know about them. Anyway, this place is owned by an ex-pat Brit who moved over here and missed his fish & chips. So he opened up a restaurant making English food. English food is heavily influenced by Indian food, he says, so he also has quite a few Indian choices. And then there are a few new things he's created that are Tex-Mex with Indian or English twists to them - like a tandoori chicken quesadilla made on n'aan. That was amazing!
After that, we checked back in with our friend to see if she wanted us to bring her dinner. She wasn't hungry when we left so we said we'd check back. She wasn't hungry then, either, so we headed home.
We checked in with our other beloved neighbor and helped her figure out how she can get up to the hospital tonight for a visit...she has 5 kids all between 1 and 9 and so it's not so easy for her to take off for a few hours...especially since her DH is getting a new gym off the ground, along side his chiropractic practice...but all this is contingent upon if our friend is even still in the hospital. If she is, I will babysit the five kids and if not, well...I'm sure we will all be visiting her anyway.
So we eventually wandered home and took care of some things looming over our heads. Finally crawled into bed around 11:30 and lights out...heads hit the pillow...we were both out faster than you can say "sleep".
This morning came too early. Nothing unusual there! But at 7, I hear my sweet hubby's phone buzzing on the night stand. He answers it and it's our friend's mother. She does not need a ride to the hospital. Our friend is coming home today!
The repeat cat scan showed that the bleeding is stopping on it's own and the mass of a clot that's sitting there in her brain is disintegrating, as it should, courtesy of the drugs. Her headache is almost completely gone and OT/PT cleared her as having full coordination and mobility.
There is still a final check needed by the attending physician...but things appear to be shaping up. No surgery is needed and that's just tremendously great news!
So I called our other neighbor and we both bawled our eyes out at the great news. We shall see how the day unfolds...but it sure feels better than yesterday!
Yesterday afternoon I had my annual review with my boss. It was great! It was especially great when you consider how last year went for me. I won't go into how it went for me right now...but the review was fantastic, considering! My boss gave me the biggest compliment I ever could have hoped to hear from him and what he said was: "I don't have to worry about you. You'll get it done and you'll get it done right and you'll get it done on time." Given last year...that's just huge. Maybe I'll talk about that story someday...but things actually feel right now...here in this office. I will say that last year I moved from working offshore into this office and this group. And the transition was not smooth. Or easy. I was giving up my dream job to save my marriage and there were personal and professional demons that had to be dealt with. The entire first half of the year was incredibly rocky and I was scared to death about whether or not I'd keep this job with this company that I love.
And re: the TOM issue...well...it's still there. But 3 pounds of the 6 decided they didn't need to hang around any longer...so...while I feel better...I will feel much better this time next week!
And that's all I've got!
YAY!!!

I'm so glad that you are feeling better, and especially glad that your fried is going to recover from her stroke!! What an ordeal to have to go through. I will keep her in my thoughts that she has a speedy and full recovery.
ReplyDeleteSo glad to hear about your neighbor! One of my sister's has had two mini-strokes, so as you know timing and getting to the hospital in time for the meds makes all the difference. I try to remember what she taught me and pass it on.
ReplyDeleteAct 'FAST' is the mnemonic to remember as many stroke victims and the people who are around them don't even realize what's happening (my sister only had dizziness when she got up to leave a restaurant). Many times the person just appears a little confused or 'out of it' and others are afraid to approach them or go through the following steps.
F = Face; look for face symmetry and ask them to smile. Look for droopiness, numbness.
A = Arms & Legs; Ask them to raise both arms above their head, ask them to walk, again looking for a difference, weakness, numbness.
S = Speak; ask them to repeat a sentence after you. Listen for inappropriate words, slurring.
T = Time; acting FAST is critical, call 911 if you even suspect a stroke. The medicines that can reverse the stroke damage can only help you if given within the first few hours.
I'm so happy that your neighbor is doing well. I wanted to take a moment to tell you how much I appreciate your comments on my blog. It's nice to know we have such a great community of support. Have a great rest of the day!
